A pre-wedding shoot isn’t essential, but it can be such a lovely way to capture this special engagement chapter before your big day. Your wedding is incredibly special, but it also tends to be busy and can fly by so quickly. A pre-shoot gives you the chance to create relaxed, beautiful photos without the time pressure of the wedding day.

It’s also a fantastic way to practice being in front of the camera and to feel comfortable with me photographing you. Think of it as a little warm-up before the main event. By the time your wedding day comes around, you’ll already know how I work and you’ll feel so much more confident and relaxed in front of the lens.

Many couples also love that they can use their engagement photos in really meaningful ways, from wedding websites and save-the-dates, to décor on the big day itself. They’re also gorgeous to frame at home as a reminder of this exciting chapter in your lives.

Most importantly, though, a pre-wedding shoot is a chance to slow down and simply enjoy being together. We’ll pick a location that feels right for you, whether that’s the beach, the city, or out in nature, and spend some time capturing the two of you just being yourselves. No pressure, no big audience, just laughter, connection, and genuine moments.

So while you don’t need a pre-wedding photoshoot, I honestly think it’s one of the best gifts you can give yourselves during the wedding journey. It’s not just about photos, it’s about creating memories you’ll treasure forever.

FAQs about Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

What should we wear?

The best outfits are ones that feel like you. I always suggest choosing clothes you feel comfortable and confident in. Neutral tones and soft colours photograph beautifully, but pops of colour can look amazing too. Think about outfits that are timeless and complement each other rather than match exactly. Check my blog post for more tips.

When is the best time to do a pre-wedding shoot?

Golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset) is always a winner, the light is soft, flattering, and dreamy! Timing-wise, some couples book their shoot when they first get engaged or others a few months before their wedding day, but honestly there’s no right or wrong. It’s about when it feels right for you, maybe you have a favourite season that you'd like to capture?

How long does it take?

Most pre-wedding shoots last around an hour, which gives us plenty of time to explore a location, relax, and get a mix of beautiful shots without feeling rushed.

Where can we do it?

Anywhere that feels meaningful or exciting to you! Beaches, forests, mountaintops, city streets, your favourite café… the location can really reflect your personalities and story. I’m always happy to suggest ideas too.

Do we need to pose?

Not at all! My style is very natural and documentary. I’ll give you a little direction to help you feel at ease, but most of the time I’ll encourage you to move, laugh, and just enjoy being together. The best photos come when you forget about the camera and focus on each other.
